A television commercial in support of
gay marriage will begin airing Sunday for three days in Alabama.
A married couple and their daughter
appear in the 30-second ad, which begins airing in the Birmingham and
Montgomery TV markets today.
“Alabama does not recognize our
marriage,” one of the women says. “Everyone wants to believe that
if you do what you're supposed to do, you will be taken care of. But
we don't have that safeguard that every child can feel good about the
home they come from. Isn't that what matters?” (The video is

Evan Wolfson, founder and president of
Freedom to Marry, said
his group produced the ad to “underscore the message that [gay]
families in Alabama don't have the same protections and freedom to
marry” as couples in 36 states plus the District of Columbia.
A federal judge has struck down
Alabama's ban on gay marriage in two cases. Both rulings will take
effect on Monday, February 9, barring intervention from an appeals
court or the Supreme Court.
