Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday
told a man that God can turn gay men straight.
Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay
rights, made his remarks during The 700 Club's Bring It
On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.
“I am really in deep confusion and I
really need answers,” a viewer named Ian wrote. “Can God take
away this same-sex attraction? Can God change a homosexual to
straight?”
Robertson said that his network once
profiled an “absolutely gorgeous” woman who “was a man” until
“the Lord touched him, changed him and now he is married and has
some children and has a very happy life.” (It was unclear whether
the man was actually gay.)
“It is a miracle but God can do it.”
“Somebody was asking me for
counseling the other day and said, 'I've got this son and he was
effeminate from the time he was young and now he says he's gay.' And
I said to her, 'Does he want to be a girl?' And she said no and I
said, 'Well, if he doesn't want to be a girl, basically he wants to
be a man. And if he wants to be a man, there's no reason that he
can't start acting like one.' God can take care of this.”
“The question is, can God do it? The
answer is, He not only can, He will,” Robertson added.
