With only weeks to go before the
premiere of Director Kirby Dick's new documentary on the outing of
gay and lesbian politicians, rumors have surfaced that the film outs
Florida Republican Governor Charlie Crist.
Prominent blogger Mike Rogers, who
appears in the film, posted the news Monday on his blog,
BlogActive.com,
a website dedicated to the outing of gay politicians unfriendly to
gay and lesbian rights.
“My numerous sources tell me that the
movie will out Charlie Crist,” Rogers posted.
Outrage looks at the lives of
gay politicians who remain deep in the closet and actively support an
anti-gay agenda and the damage they have inflicted on the gay and
lesbian community.
Rumors that Crist is gay have long
swirled in gay political circles. Crist might have hoped his 2008
marriage to Carole Rome would have put those rumors to bed. Instead,
the gossip turned cynical as muckrakers dismissed the marriage as a
sham and little less than a conservative image boost taken on to help
secure a spot on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket.
The film includes interviews with
prominent members of the gay community, including Congressman Barney
Frank, former New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey, gay rights activists
Larry Kramer, and radio personality Michelangelo Signorile.
Producers of the film call it: “[A]
searing indictment of the hypocrisy of closeted politicians who
actively campaign against the LGBT community they covertly belong to.
Boldly revealing the hidden lives of some of the United States' most
powerful policymakers, Outrage takes a comprehensive look at
the harm they've inflicted [by]
keeping their secrets.”
Outrage premieres May 1 at the
Tribeca
Film Festival in New York City.
