New York Senator Carl Kruger, who
opposed a gay marriage bill in 2009, has been outed as gay.
The
New York Post
outed the Democrat and named his live-in boyfriend, gynecologist
Michael Turano, amid charges of corruption.
“Closeted Brooklyn state Sen. Carl
Kruger, a Democratic powerhouse, traded political favors for more
than $1 million in bribes over the last five years -- which his
live-in boyfriend helped launder, the feds charged yesterday. Kruger
and his secret longtime companion, Manhattan gynecologist Michael
Turano, were among eight men arrested in a sweeping government
'pay-to-play' corruption scandal,” the Post wrote on
Thursday.
Turano is accused of using bribe money
to pay for a Bentley luxury sedan and the mortgage on the
multimillion-dollar home the men share with Turano's mother and
brother.
Kruger and Turano were among the eight
men arrested in the federal probe.
In 2009, Kruger joined eight Senate
Democrats in voting against a gay marriage bill approved by the
Assembly and supported by then-Governor David Paterson. Governor
Andrew Cuomo recently pledged his support for a new effort to approve
the bill this year.
