A Republican super-PAC has erected billboards in 5 states informing voters that President Barack Obama supports “gay marriage and abortion.”
Adorned in red, white and blue, the billboards state, “Obama supports gay marriage and abortion,” before asking in a word bubble, “Do you?” and calling on voters to “Vote Republican.”
The president announced in May his support for gay nuptials. He also supports Roe v. Wade.
In 2011, he said: “I am committed to protecting this constitutional right. I also remain committed to policies, initiatives, and programs that help prevent unintended pregnancies, support women and mothers, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption.”
The nascent super-PAC Republican Union PAC spent $950,000 to erect the billboards in five key states: Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Spokesman Bo Harmon said his group will also pay to move people into states with close presidential and congressional races.
“For years and years, Democrat unions have held an advantage over Republicans in terms of grassroots volunteer deployment because of their ability to cover the cost of activists going into the field in target states,” Harmon told Bloomberg.com. “Republicans have millions and millions of conservative activists around the country and the Republican Union PAC was created to help move activists into target states and cover the cost of their deployment.”
