Engaged couple Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge on Sunday won The Amazing Race season 21.
After the elimination of 7 teams, the men emerged victorious in Sunday's 2-hour season finale.
Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge star in their own reality series, The Fabulous Beekman Boys. After two seasons on cabler Planet Green, the series has moved to the Cooking Channel.
The duo were considered underdogs for most of the race. They narrowly escaped elimination to make it to the final four.
The New York couple beat out teams of Lexi Beerman and Trey Wier, a couple from Texas, and Jaymes Vaughan and James Davis, Chippendale dancers and best friends.
“This race has really brought us back together again,” Kilmer-Purcell said. “I've had to work in the city and he's on the farm. So winning this race will actually bring us physically together again … for the next 50 years.”
While the reality show has often included teams with gay members, a gay couple has not won the race since 2003. Reichen Lehmkuhl and Chip Arndt won the 4th season of Amazing Race. They remain the first and, so far, only gay couple to win the competition. Lehmkuhl went on to appear on cabler Logo's reality series The A-List: New York.
