The Weinstein Company on Monday
released a new wordless trailer for Carol.
Cate Blanchett stars opposite Rooney
Mara in Carol.
Based on Patricia Highsmith's (under
the pseudonym Claire Morgan) 1952 novel The
Price of Salt, the film – set in 1950s New York –
revolves around department-store clerk Therese (played by Mara) as
she falls for Carol, an older, married woman (Blanchett).
The trailer's stunning visuals
compliment the film, which premiered in May at the Cannes Film
Festival to much fanfare.
Carol opened to stellar reviews
in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles, raking in $246,000.
The Weinstein Company is planning a slow platform release for the
film, which won't go wide until after Oscar nominations are announced
in mid-January.
The film has generated Oscar buzz for
its two leads, Blanchett and Mara, and director Todd Haynes.
