In a recent interview with Larry King,
out artist Troye Sivan said that actor Ian McKellen might have known
he was gay before he came out.
The 20-year-old is best known in the
United States for his portrayal of young James Howlett in the X-Men
film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He released his debut studio
album, Blue Neighborhood, on December 4.
Sivan, who is also a YouTuber, came out
gay in 2013 in a YouTube video.
“Best piece of advice you ever
received?” King asked.
“That's a really good question,”
Sivan responded.
“So, I was in Waiting for Godot,
the stage play with Ian McKellen.”
“At your age?”
“I think I was 15. And, to be
honest, I actually think he knew that I was gay. I hadn't come out
yet. But I think he knew. … He, like, shook my hand and he was
like, 'Keep going. You'll be fine,' or something like that. I don't
know if he was talking about acting or he was talking about something
more personal,” Sivan explained.
