Actress Ellen Page says coming out had a profound effect on her creatively and professionally.
The 29-year-old Page came out gay in 2014 on Valentine's Day during a speech delivered at Time To THRIVE, an LGBT youth conference hosted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).
Since coming out, Page has played a lesbian opposite Julianne Moore in Freeheld and co-hosted Gaycation, a 4-part docuseries that looks at what's it like to be LGBT around the world.
In a recent interview with HuffPost Live, Page said that coming out has changed her.
“I feel like a different person now that I'm out,” Page said. “And I feel like my creative life is getting to blossom in this way because I'm actually getting to interact with it as the authentic person that I am. So I can make a show like this and I can produce movies with LGBT characters or what have you. And I'm feeling such profound gratitude to feel how I feel and be able to come out and receive so much support because that is not the case for a lot of people.”
Gaycation is currently playing on VICELAND.
