Ringo Starr has canceled a concert in Cary, North Carolina over a law he criticized as discriminatory.
House Bill 2, approved last month during a one-day special session, blocks cities from enacting ordinances that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and bars students attending public institutions from using the bathroom that does not conform to their gender at birth.
“I'm sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred,” Starr wrote in a Facebook post. “Spread peace and love.”
“How sad that they feel that this group of people cannot be defended,” he added.
The All Starr Tour Show was set to arrive June 18th in Cary at the Koka Booth Amphitheater.
Bruce Springsteen took a similar stand last week, while Bryan Adams has canceled a show in Mississippi to protest a similar law.
