Appearing last week on Ellen DeGeneres' daytime talk show, singer Nick Jonas explained that he was “incredibly frustrated” by a North Carolina law that targets the LGBT community.
Jonas and Demi Lovato canceled shows in Raleigh and Charlotte over passage of House Bill 2, which blocks cities from approving LGBT protections and prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice in government buildings, including schools.
“It’s an incredibly frustrating situation overall,” Jonas said. “We are very aware of our strong LGBT community fanbase and the support they've given us and the support we want to give them.”
“This was a time where I feel like we said we have to make a bold statement, put our foot down and stand firm in something we believe in and it’s unfortunate for the fans there and for us because we want to go play as many shows as possible,” he added.
Other artists who have canceled shows over the law include Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Ringo Starr, Boston and Cirque du Soleil.
