The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is encouraging Catholics to support this weekend's march against marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.
The National Organization for Marriage's (NOM) March for Marriage will take place Saturday, June 25, the day before the one year anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court case that found that gay couples have a constitutional right to marry.
In a post on its Marriage Unique for a Reason website, the bishops called the high court's ruling “erroneous and unjust.”
“The event is meant to highlight the importance of the unique meaning of marriage to society and the importance of mothers and fathers for children,” the bishops wrote.
“Please consider joining the March for Marriage 2016 to witness to the continued importance of authentic marriage!” they added.
This year's march will wind its way from the reflecting pool to the Supreme Court.
