Miley Cyrus this week posted a selfie
on Instagram wearing a t-shirt with the slogan “Make America Gay
Again.”
The image went viral with more than
847,000 likes.
The shirt is from American Apparel,
which also sells a “Make America LGBTQ Again” t-shirt.
Clearly inspired by Donald Trump's
“Make America Great Again” hat, thirty percent of proceeds from
the shirts go to support efforts to pass the Equality Act, a federal
bill introduced last year that would prohibit discrimination in
several key areas based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the
nation's largest LGBT rights advocate, is also selling the shirts at
its online store.
According to HRC, the
#MakeAmericaGayAgain, #MakeAmericanLGBTQAgain campaign will “share
personal stories and videos to educate audiences about LGBTQ equality
and work to increase acceptance.”
