The cast of Broadway's Fun Home
will perform a one-night-only concert in Orlando to benefit the
survivors of a mass shooting in an Orlando gay nightclub.
According to the AP, the concert
version of the musical will be performed at the Dr. Phillips Center
for the Performing Arts, which is located a few blocks away from the
Pulse nightclub where 49 people died and dozens were injured.
The July 24 concert will raise money
for the victims of the incident and their families and Equality
Florida.
The award-winning musical is the first
Broadway show to feature a lesbian protagonist.
“As the first musical with a lesbian
protagonist, we so often hear from audience members at Fun Home
that it was the first time they saw themselves represented on a
Broadway stage,” said
the show's producers in a statement. “We all feel so helpless,
but hopefully this will allow us to give back to the LGBT community
in this tiny way.”
