Cher on Sunday helped raise more than
$1.5 million at a fundraiser and rally for Hillary Clinton.
The “summer celebration” in support
of Clinton attracted roughly 1,000 people to the Pilgrim Monument &
Museum in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
According to the Cape
Cod Times, Clinton spoke for about 30 minutes.
“Hillary was great,” said Alix
Ritchie, host of the event. “She was serious, to the point and
funny. She was warm. She's a very warm person. And everyone was
ecstatic she was there … the spirit of the crowd must have lifted
her too.”
Gabby Hanna, a resident who attended
the rally, said that Cher gave a “rousing speech about why she
supports Hillary.”
Others who attended the event include
out tennis legend Billie Jean King, Massachusetts Attorney General
Maura Healey, U.S. Senator Ed Markey, and former Congressman Barney
Frank. Frank in 2012 became the first openly gay member of Congress
to marry while in office.
Cher later tweeted that Clinton gave a
“great speech.”
“Great 2b w/her,” Cher messaged.
“Said it b4 … don't care what any1 thinks...”
This was Clinton's second visit in a
year to the tiny resort town known as a travel destination for the
LGBT community.
