Singer Cher is speaking out against Donald Trump and his recent promises to the LGBT community.
During an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC's The Last Word, Cher called Trump the “most disingenuous man I've ever seen.” Her remarks come just days after she stumped for Hillary Clinton, Trump's rival, in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
In accepting the GOP presidential nomination, Trump vowed to protect the LGBT community.
“Only weeks ago, in Orlando, Florida, forty-nine wonderful Americans were savagely murdered by an Islamic terrorist,” Trump told GOP delegates meeting in Cleveland. “This time, the terrorists targeted our LGBTQ community. As your president, I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology, believe me.”
“Oh come on,” Cher told host Lawrence O'Donnell. “He says those letter like a child who's learning the alphabet.”
“He's the most disingenuous man I've ever seen. And I want to tell you, my people will not believe him for a minute,” she added.
In gay-friendly Provincetown, Cher helped raise more than $1.5 million for Clinton. Standing in front of a giant American flag, Cher compared Trump to Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler.
“[Trump] doesn't mean we want to make America great again. He means we want to make America straight and white,” she told the crowd, and later added that she was reminded of “despots, you know, Stalin, Hitler.”
