Appearing on CNBC's Squawk Box on Wednesday, Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, praised his father's support for the LGBT community.
In the interview, the younger Trump claimed that his father has pushed the GOP to be more inclusive.
“We had a gay man speak at the RNC and my father spent a lot of his time talking about the LGBT community,” he said. “That is revolutionary for the Republican Party.”
Out CEO Peter Thiel did speak at the RNC, where he urged all Americans “to stand up and vote for Donald Trump,” making him the first openly gay Republican in 16 years to speak at a GOP convention.
In accepting the Republican nomination, Trump vowed to protect the LGBT community “from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology.”
But the RNC also made headlines for its platform, which has been criticized for its opposition to LGBT rights, including marriage equality, and support for therapies that attempt to alter the sexual orientation or gender identity of minors and laws that restrict transgender bathroom use.
Trump has also claimed that he's a better “friend” to the LGBT community that his Democratic rival, Hilary Clinton, despite his opposition to same-sex marriage and allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice.
