President-elect Donald Trump tweeted a demand that a Hamilton cast member apologize to Mike Pence after he addressed him from the stage during a performance on Friday.
Vice-president elect Mike Pence received a loud chorus of boos from the audience when he made a surprise appearance to watch the Broadway musical.
At the show's conclusion, cast members locked hands and Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the play, addressed Pence.
“Vice-president elect Mike Pence, we welcome you and truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton American Musical,” Dixon is quoted as saying by USA Today. “We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us. We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds and orientation.”
Trump demanded an apology in a tweet, saying that Pence had been “harassed.”
“Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen,” Trump messaged on Saturday.
“The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!” he added in a separate tweet.
The incident quickly became cable news fodder.
On CNN's Tonight, host Don Lemon, who is openly gay, pointed out that the show's lead is played by an openly gay, openly HIV man: Javier Muñoz.

When panelist Kayleigh McEnany came to Pence's defense, Lemon shot back.
“Mike Pence loves all people and President-elect Donald Trump has already said he's not going to roll back legislation …,” McEnany started.
“Mike Pence does not love gay people,” Lemon interrupted. “His record shows that he does not love gay people.”
