Out designer-director Tom Ford said this week that he won't dress future first lady Melania Trump.
Ford made his comments during an appearance on ABC's The View.
“I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined; she's not necessarily my image,” Ford said, adding that “even had Hillary [Clinton] won she shouldn't be wearing my clothes – they're too expensive. They're not artificially expensive, it's how much it costs to make these things. I think the first lady has to relate to anybody.”
Ford ,who said he was a Democrat and voted for Clinton, is among a handful of high-fashion designers not interested in being associated with the Trump administration.
Designer Sophie Theallet, who has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama, is among those participating in the boycott. In a letter published Thursday she said that Trump's “rhetoric of racism, sexism, and xenophobia” are “incompatible with the shared values we live by,” and encouraged other designers to join her.
