Kevin Alejandro says he “loves” playing gay Latino orderly Jesus Velasquez on the HBO vampire drama True Blood.
The show, which will air its third season finale Sunday, brought in Alejandro to play Velasquez, who becomes involved with flamboyant gay prostitute and blood dealer Lafayette Reynolds, earlier this year.
“This is probably one of the biggest things I've ever been able to be part of, and it's been pretty amazing for me,” the Texas native told the Boston Herald. “I'm not jaded by it. I'm new to it. It really puts a smile on my face. Every day I've had somebody be really kind and appreciative of the things we're doing [on the show], and personally I love it.”
In an earlier interview with gay glossy Out, Alejandro talked about his character's love life: “Jesus is a nice balance to Lafayette – the yin thing. They're opposites, but it works. They keep each other in check.”
NBC was first to nab Alejandro for their Los Angeles-based police drama Southland. The series, which features television's gruff gay cop, training officer Jon Cooper (played by Michael Cudlitz), will return for a third season on cable network TNT, which picked up the show last year.
Alejandro promised fans won't be disappointed with True Blood's finale: “It's actually going to be a really great finale.”
The 34-year-old Mexican-American actor also played gay on the second season of HBO's Big Love.
Alejandro married his wife Leslie in 2004 and the couple has one child.
