Pastor Gary Gordon claims legalizing gay marriage will lead to America's downfall.

At a Tuesday rally held on the steps of the Iowa Statehouse, Gordon of the socially conservative group Cornerstone World Outreach, told about 500 supporters of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in the state that God will destroy America like he destroyed Rome if we ignore his authority.

Constantine's “empire disappeared from the face of the Earth, crushed from barbarians from the North. If we do not quickly change our state and national attitude about God's authority over pathetic human government and protect the virtue of true Americanism from our own mental barbarians who attack our minds with the God-hating secularism of Europe, we too will be extinguished from the Earth due to close the final chapter of a once great nation and enter the tomb of lost empires,” Gordon told the crowd. The rally was organized by Bob Vander Plaats' socially conservative group The Family Leader. The group and its supporters are calling on the Iowa Senate to follow the House's lead and approve the Iowa Marriage Amendment. Democratic Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal has blocked the measure from reaching the Senate floor.

Also at the rally, prominent NAACP leader Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. called on the gay community to stop “hijacking” the civil rights movement and former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore claimed legalizing marriage for gay and lesbian couples will lead to “child abuse.”
