Singer Ricky Martin wants to marry his
boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez and the couple is considering marrying in
Spain.
During
an appearance Monday on Spain's El Progama de Ana Rosa,
journalist Miguel Angel Nicolas said the couple was considering
marrying in Spain. He added that the Spanish model Esther Canadas, a
friend of the Living' la Vida Loca singer, has offered to
help Martin become a Spanish citizen. Spain legalized gay marriage
in 2005.
Martin cannot marry in Puerto Rico, a
territory of the United States, because it is not legal. While five
states and the District of Columbia have legalized gay marriage,
federal law does not recognize such unions.
In accepting an award from the Gay &
Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), Martin
thanked his family and Gonzalez, who was seated in the audience,
for their support. Gonzalez also attended Martin's inaugural concert
in Puerto Rico for his Musica+Alma+Sexo (Music+Soul+Sex) world tour.
Pastor Wanda Rolon, an influential social conservative in Puerto
Rico, blasted
Martin's sexuality on the eve of the concert.
The former Menudo star and
father of two announced he's gay a
year ago on Tuesday.
