J. Crew President and Creative Director
Jenna Lyons has come out gay.
Lyons quietly slipped out of the closet
when she thanked her partner Courtney Crangi for showing her “new
love” in accepting Glamour's “Fashion Original” title at
the glossy's Women of the Year awards on Monday.
Speculation in the tabloids over Lyon's
sexual orientation reached a fever pitch amid her divorce from artist
Vincent Mazeau. The couple, married 9 years, were often included in
J. Crew catalogs along with their son, Beckett.
A J. Crew layout featuring Beckett with
his feet in his mother's lap, his toenails painted hot pink, stirred
controversy last year. Under the headline “Quality Time,” Lyons
is quoted: “Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite
color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.”
Conservatives attacked the ad, calling it “blatant propaganda
celebrating transgender children.”
In her acceptance speech, Lyons thanked
her son “for reminding me that the world revolves around him every
day” and “Courtney, who has shown me new love.”
