Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton says he
wanted to become a dad because kids, unlike boyfriends, are forever.
The 34-year-old Hilton, real name Mario
Armando Lavandeira, Jr., became a father via a surrogate on February
16 with the birth of Mario Armando Lavandeira III, nicknamed Perez
Hilton, Jr.
News of the baby's birth, who arrived a
month earlier than expected and weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces, became
the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter.
Hilton told the Los
Angeles Times that he always knew he would become a father by
his 35th birthday, which is Saturday, and was prepared to
go it alone.
“I knew it was going to happen this
way because boyfriends and husbands may come and go, but kids are
forever,” he said. “I didn't want to keep waiting.”
Hilton kept the pregnancy a secret,
letting only his mother, sister, lawyer and business manager in on the
development. As for the woman who carried the baby, Hilton has not
said who she is or where she lives.
