At a stop in Minneapolis on Friday, a
female activist dumped silver glitter on Minessota Congresswoman and
presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann.
“You can run, but you cannot hide!”
activist Rachel E. B. Lang yelled as she threw glitter at Bachmann
after she concluded her speech at the RightOnline conference. “Keep
your hate out of our constitution!” (The video is embedded in the
right panel of this page.)
Bachmann either ignored or was
oblivious to Lang's protest.
Lang was referring to Bradlee Dean's
You Can Run But You Cannot Hide youth ministry. Bachmann has
previously supported the controversial preacher who created a
firestorm of controversy last month when he suggested President
Barack Obama and Democrats are not Christians. Dean
included the swipe in delivering the Minnesota House's opening prayer
on the day the chamber was expected to vote on a constitutional
amendment that seeks to ban gay marriage in the state. (The
House approved the measure the following day, sending it to voters
for their approval in 2012.)
“I 'glittered' Representative Michele
Bachmann to draw attention to her anti-gay crusade against families
like yours and mine,” Lang said in a statement. “As the proud
daughter of a lesbian mom living in the state of Minnesota, I know
first hand how harmful Michele's anti-gay rhetoric and policy
positions can be.”
Bachmann is the third presidential
candidate to get glittered. On Thursday in San Francisco, two
female activists dumped pink glitter and confetti on former Minnesota
Governor Tim Pawlenty. The incidents are similar to Nick
Espinosa's 'gay' glittering of Newt Gingrich last month in
Minneapolis.
During a GOP presidential debate on
Monday, Bachmann,
Gingrich and Pawlenty reiterated their support for a constitutional
amendment banning gay marriage.
