Two-time Olympian Johnny Weir is
engaged to marry an Atlanta-area lawyer.
The 27-year-old Weir in late October
tweeted to this more than 100,000 followers that his boyfriend had
proposed marriage to him and that he had accepted.
Weir has since deleted the message.
But that hasn't stopped the figure skater, who only recently came out
in his memoir Welcome to my World, from referring to
@vitya_zvesda (which translates roughly to Victor Star from Russian)
as his husband.
“Up too late missing my Husband
@vitya_zvesda. I want everyone to be as happy as I am sometime in
their lives …,” he wrote on November 22.
In an interview with The
GA Voice, Weir referred to his boyfriend, an Atlanta-based
lawyer, as his fiance.
“My boyfriend, fiance now, has only
recently come out and he's 28 years old and it's been an
uncomfortable, rocky road for him.”
“We're a typical relationship that
you would see on a sitcom, only we're two gay men,” Weir added.
Weir will participate in a CNN panel
discussing LGBT issues originating from Grady High School in Atlanta
on Wednesday.
