After backtracking on his opposition to
gay rights, a new video has surfaced showing Chick-Fil-A President
Dan Cathy calling gay marriage “twisted stuff.”
Cathy unleashed a firestorm of
controversy when he said gay marriage is “inviting God's judgment
on our nation.” He pivoted
in a subsequent interview, insisting “we don't have an anti-gay
or anti-anything policy or attitude toward anybody that's out there.”
Between 2003 and 2010, Chick-Fil-A gave nearly $5 million to groups
opposed to gay rights, according to Equality
Matters.
GoodAsYou.org
has unearthed a
June 21 video of Cathy addressing nearly 1,100 people gathered at
Hope Community Church in which he reaffirms his opposition to
marriage equality.
“It's very clear in Romans chapter 1,
if we look at society today, we see all the twisted up kind of stuff
that's going on,” said Cathy. Washington trying to redefine the
definition of marriage and all the other kinds of things that we go –
if you go upstream from that, in Romans chapter 1, you will see that
because we have not acknowledged God and because we have not thanked
God, that we have been left victim to the foolishness of our own
thoughts, and as result, we are suffering the consequences of a
society and culture who has not acknowledged God or not thanked God –
he's left us to a deprived mind. It's tragic and we live in a
culture of that today.”
