Singer Rufus Wainwright and longtime
partner Jorn Weisbrodt married Thursday in New York.
The 39-year-old Wainwright, the son of
singers Loudon Wainwright III and the late Kate McGarrigle, wed
Weisbrodt, the artistic director of the Luminato Festival, at his
home in Montauk, New York in front of 250 friends and family.
The ceremony was officiated by the
artist Justin Vivian Bond and guests included Julianne Moore, Alan
Cumming, Yoko Ono, Carrie Fisher and Mark Ronson, according to
PEOPLE.com.
The
New York Daily News reported that the couple asked guests for
money in lieu of gifts to pay for a 25-foot Airstream travel trailer
they had ordered. A new Airstream costs between $55,000 and $75,000,
depending on options.
Wainwright
and Weisbrodt last year announced the birth of their daughter,
Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen.
Klaus Biesenbach, chief curator at
large of The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, tweeted a photo
of the couple along with the message: “I am first timer in being a
best man at a wedding … at least I already delivered the speech
ok!”
