Alabama Congressman Robert Aderholt's
Democratic challenger has suggested that Aderholt is secretly gay.
Daniel Boman, an Alabama state
representative, made the suggestion in a Facebook post titled “Who
would you vote for?”
“A republican who is a homosexual who
has a voting record of voting AGAINST ALL homosexual legislation.
Further, this particular homosexual congressman has ALL homosexuals
working on his congressional staff,” was the first option.
Or, “A democrat who is a straight
male, but has no voting record for or against homosexual
legislation.”
Aderholt, who has two children with his
wife Caroline, voted against repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell”
and passage of the gay-inclusive Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes
Prevention Act.
Boman
insisted that the post is merely hypothetical, then added: “The
only way to remove the hypothetical is to call and ask [Aderholt].”
The Aderholt campaign responded by
saying that Boman was being foolish: “When someone is making a fool
of himself, we hate to interrupt.”
Boman has yet to report any campaign
contributions with the Federal Elections Commission, while Aderholt
has raised $1.2 million as of the end of last month.
