U.S. Marine Corps Captain Matthew
Phelps proposed marriage to his partner Ben Schock over the weekend
inside the White House.
The proposal is believed to be the
first to take place inside the White House between two men, Gawker
reported.
“Such a special night surrounded by
wonderful people in an amazing place, and the best is still yet to
come,” Phelps wrote on Facebook. “Thanks for all the wonderful
greetings and messages, and thanks to Barack Obama and Michelle Obama
for lending us your home for the occasion!”
A photo of Phelps on bended knee
proposing to Schock in front of a Christmas tree went viral on social
media.
In a follow up post, Phelps said the
pair were “blown away” by the support.
“Ben and I are blown away by the
amazing love and support we have received,” he
wrote. “Thank you all so much for sharing in our joy and our
lives.”
In June, Dr. Scout, a transgender man,
proposed
marriage to Liz Margolies during the president's annual White House
Pride reception.
