Actress Portia de Rossi, the wife of
talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, believes there is power in being
openly gay.
The 40-year-old de Rossi will reprise
the role of Lindsay Funke in Netflix's upcoming fourth season of
Arrested Development.
“In this reincarnation, she's doing a
little work on herself,” de Rossi told gay
glossy Out of her character. “She is attempting
to … not become a better person exactly, but to find out who she is
and what she wants. She isn't as vapid and selfish as I've always
thought her to be.”
In discussing her efforts to produce
television with gay characters, de Rossi said “it's still very
difficult for [openly gay] actors to get certain types of roles.”
“I really, honestly think that
anybody who is openly gay and visible is powerful,” she said. “It
doesn't matter what you do, you are impacting people.”
She added of her nearly 5 year marriage
to DeGeneres: “We've settled into happily married life. We really
support each other in whatever we're doing and we're incredibly
happy, which is why you don't see us in the press so much. There's
no drama to report.”
