Kaitlyn Hunt has said that she regrets
violating the terms of a no-contact order that led her to accept a
plea deal last week.
In an interview from the jail where she
is serving her sentence, Hunt told NBC affiliate WPTV that this is
the first year that she will miss Thanksgiving with her family.
“I feel relieved too, a little bit,
that everything's over and I'm not still going through this crazy
thing,” Hunt said.
Hunt pleaded no contest to two felony
charges in connection with an underage relationship with a female
student. She'll spend 4 months in jail followed by three years of
felony supervision, including two years of house arrest. But the
deal lets her skip a trial and she won't have to register as a sex
offender. Also, her record could be expunged after 10 years.
Hunt was arrested in February following
her 18th birthday over having a relationship with a female
student 3 years younger than herself while both attended Sebastian
River High School. After posting bail, she was ordered to have no
contact with the alleged victim.
Hunt was jailed in mid-August after
prosecutors accused her of sending thousands of text messages to the
victim, including some naked, a violation of the court's no-contact
order.
“Yeah, I do regret it, because, you
know, I trusted her as not only my friend but my girlfriend, too,”
Hunt said. “And I felt like, you know, I was just set up in
multiple ways. And I got hurt by her. I care about her as a person,
you know, 'cause it's someone I dated for a long time. But I don't
love her the way I did before.”
Hunt wouldn't answer whether an apology
was in order. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
