Olympian Johnny Weir has split from
Victor Voronov, his husband of two years.
Weir and Voronov exchanged vows in New
York on New Year's Eve 2011.
“It is with great sadness that I
announce that my husband and I are no longer together,” Weir said
in a tweet to his more than 205,000 followers. “My heart hurts,
and I wish him well.”
Weir, the three-time U.S. National
Figure Skating champion, came out gay in his 272-page tell-all memoir
Welcome to my World, which was published in early 2011.
Earlier this month, Weir made headlines
as he attended a hearing over charges that he bit Voronov last summer
during a domestic dispute. The judge agreed to dismiss the case.
“It is a private matter I do not wish
to discuss,” Weir told reporters at the courthouse.
In a recent interview, Voronov
said that he came out to his family with the news that he was
marrying Weir.
