Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge and
partner Linda Wallem married Saturday in California.
According to PEOPLE.com, the pair
exchanged vows at the scenic San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito.
Etheridge's four children from previous
relationships participated in the ceremony.
Both women turned 53 on Thursday, and
Etheridge tweeted the following day: “Linda and I had a great
birthday yesterday. Now, just a little rehearsal for something we
will be doing tomorrow....”
Guests attending the ceremony included
Jane Lynch, Chelsea Handler, Rosie O'Donnell, Whitney Cummings, Peter
Facinelli and Sia.
Etheridge performed a new song during
the ceremony she had written for Wallem.
“It was such a magical moment,” a
guest told PEOPLE. “The ceremony was such a beautiful start to
the night. The setting was perfect. It was something Melissa and
Linda wanted early on. It was as perfect as they envisioned.”
Etheridge announced plans to marry
within hours of the Supreme Court ruled last year in two cases
related to marriage equality.
“I look forward to exercising my
American civil liberties and getting fully, completely and legally
married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem,”
Etheridge said in a statement.
“Once again our constitution stands
strong,” she added. “All men, and women, and everything in
between are created equal.”
Wallem is the creator and executive
producer of premier cable network Showtime's Nurse Jackie.
Etheridge split from actress Tammy Lynn
Michaels, her partner of 9 years, in 2011. They share joint custody
of the couple's twin children, son Miller and daughter Johnnie Rose.
Etheridge also shares joint custody of two children – Bailey Jean
and Beckett – from a previous relationship with Julie Cypher.
