Citing “an irretrievably broken
relationship,” Rosie O'Donnell filed for divorce from her wife
Michelle Rounds on Friday.
According to PEOPLE,
O'Donnell filed the paperwork in Manhattan State Supreme Court and
the couple has a prenuptial agreement.
O'Donnell stunned fans earlier this
month when she announced that she had separated from Rounds and was
leaving The View to concentrate on her private life.
O'Donnell, 52, and Rounds, 42, married
in New York in June of 2012 after a brief courtship.
Appearing earlier this month on The
Dr. Oz Show, O'Donnell acknowledged that the couple split up in
November, but didn't say the marriage was over.
“I think what we both want is for
each other to be happy and live the most complete and full life we
can. We're going to figure out whether or not that's together or
separate,” O'Donnell said.
“Right now we're living separately
and we're figuring out how that feels and trying to deal with all the
emotions that come with that,” she added.
The women share custody of Dakota, 2,
whom they adopted together. O'Donnell also has four older children
from a previous relationship.
