Christian conservative James Dobson
claims in a video message that opponents of marriage equality can
expect to be persecuted now that the Supreme Court has ruled that gay
couples have a constitutional right to marry.
Dobson, the founder of Focus on the
Family, which he led until 2003, is the host of Family Talk with
Dr. James Dobson, which is broadcast on over 300 radio stations
nationwide.
Earlier this year, he predicted civil
war if the Supreme Court strikes down state bans on gay marriage.
“This decision will quickly touch
every dimension of American life,” Dobson said in an 11-minute
video posted on his website. “And the family will be forever
changed.”
“I grieve most for what it will do to
our children, our grandchildren and future generations. They will be
taught that right is wrong and wrong is right. And that the
teachings of Scripture are unreliable and inaccurate.”
“Many adopted kids will grow up in
homes with same-sex parents, lacking either masculine or feminine
role models. They're among the saddest victims of this ruling,”
Dobson
added.
Dobson added that opponents will also
“suffer.”
“Many of us will be dragged into
court to be prosecuted or subjected to civil judgments. Some will
lose their jobs. Some will lose their professional licenses. Some
will be persecuted, ridiculed and fined. Some may go to prison as
the years unfold,” he said.
