Over the weekend, Republican
presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee told a crowd of conservatives that
marriage equality and abortion rights have put America in a
“dangerous place.”
Huckabee made his comments at an All
Lives Matter summit in Illinois.
“I would suggest that if man believes
that he can redefine marriage, it's apparent that man believes he has
become his own god,” Huckabee
told the crowd. “And this is a dangerous place for America to
be.”
Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist
minister and ardent opponent of LGBT rights, has repeatedly called on
Christians to ignore the Supreme Court's ruling striking down gay
marriage bans in all 50 states.
Elsewhere in his speech, Huckabee said
that he was convinced “this country can get back on its feet, but
it can't do that until it first gets back on its knees and repents”
for legal abortion.
On Tuesday, Fox News announced the 10
candidates who will participate in the first televised Republican
presidential debate on Thursday. Huckabee made the list.
