Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor
on Saturday presided over the wedding of a lesbian couple.
Ingrid Duran and Catherine Pino tied
the knot at the Potomac View Terrace in Washington, D.C. The couple
are the founders of D&P Creative Strategies, a consulting firm
focused on Hispanic and LGBT rights issues.
Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathleen
Arberg said that Sotomayor is a friend of the women.
It was the first such wedding for
Sotomayor, who joins colleagues Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan
in officiating over same-sex weddings. Former Justice Sandra Day
O'Connor has also married gay couples.
According to LGBT weekly the Washington
Blade, four Democratic members of Congress attended the
ceremony: Xavier Beccera of California, Lucille Roybal-Allard of
California, Grace Napolitano of California and Ruben Gallego of
Arizona.
