Out actress Ellen Page said this week
from the Sundance Film Festival that she was “scared” by
presidential rhetoric on LGBT rights.
The 28-year-old actress was in Park
City, Utah for the screening of her new movie, Tallulah, in
which she plays a free-spirited woman accused of kidnapping a baby.
“In regards to LGBT rights and of
lots of other rights for all minorities really, clearly there's been
a scary rhetoric that makes me feel sad and disheartened and, you
know, scared,” Page told the
AP. “I hope it won't be the case. I hope we'll have people
who operate from a place of love and are striving for true equality.”
“But, it's democracy,” she added
with a laugh.
Late last year, Page, who came out in
2014, knocked Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Mike
Huckabee, saying
that they seem “homophobic.”
