The National Organization for Marriage
(NOM) this week launched an ad in South Carolina in which it accuses
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of abandoning the
fight against marriage equality.
“When the U.S. Supreme Court imposed
gay marriage, Donald Trump didn't fight for us. He dumped us,” a
female narrator says in 30-second spot.
“You have to go with it,” Trump is
heard saying. “The decision's been made, and that is the law of
the land.”
“When Trump quit on marriage,” the
narrator says, “he quit on South Carolina and on over 50 million
American voters. It's time to dump Trump.”
According to NOM, the ad was produced
by Frank Schubert, who managed the campaigns that resulted in passage
of marriage bans in California and South Carolina.
NOM
has endorsed the presidential campaign of Trump's main GOP rival,
Texas Senator Ted Cruz, a vocal opponent of marriage equality.
