Gregory Angelo, president of the Log
Cabin Republicans, the nation's largest group of LGBT Republicans, on
Wednesday announced that his group's application to sponsor this
year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has been
approved.
“I couldn't wait to share this news
with all of you as so many of you have been asking me about this for
probably a better part of a year now,” Angelo is quoted as saying
by the
Washington
Blade during a meeting of the group's D.C. chapter.
“I'm happy to say, I'm pleased to
say, I'm honored to say that this morning Log Cabin Republicans was
accepted as formal sponsors at this year's Conservative Political
Action Conference.”
The American Conservative Union (ACU)
organizes the annual gathering.
Angelo said that its application was
accepted after nearly a year of “intense” negotiations.
“But ultimately I think this is a
watershed moment in Log Cabin Republicans history.” he said.
In denying its application in previous
years, the ACU said that the group wasn't conservative enough.
