Leslie Odom, Jr., who won a Tony for
his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the hit musical Hamilton, this
week sang a tribute to the victims of last week's mass shooting in
Orlando that left 49 people dead.
Odom, who is set to leave his role in
Hamilton on July 9, appeared at the WSJ Cafe to perform
selections from his self-titled debut album, Leslie Odom, Jr.,
and discuss what's next for his career after Hamilton.
Odom dedicated Autumn
Leaves to the Orlando victims, saying that the song's message
had changed after Orlando.
“The lyric of this song immediately
changed,” Odom told the audience. “I've done this once since
Sunday and I was like, 'Oh my God, you know, somebody's missing
somebody forever. Someone's gone.'”
In
an interview, Odom said that “Hamilton is the new stuff.
This is what I've been doing since I was a kid.”
