Caitlyn Jenner appears on the July
cover of Sports Illustrated, 40 years after she won her
Olympic gold medal.
In the cover photo, Jenner sports a
gold jumpsuit and the gold medal she won in 1976.
“The decathlon for me was the
ultimate in what people think of as manhood,” Jenner
told the magazine. “So for me it was a good place to hide. I
had a need to prove myself, that maybe that woman that's living
inside of me really isn't living there.”
Sports Illustrated also released
a 22-minute movie titled Jenner: 40 Years After Gold to
accompany the story.
This is Jenner's second Sports
Illustrated cover. In 1976, after the decathlon win, she
appeared as Bruce.
She said that she was “very proud of
those times. This was a big part of my past. It's part of my life.
It made me who I am.”
