Various outlets, including the
IndyStar, are reporting that Donald Trump will announce Indiana
Governor Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate on Friday.
While the Trump campaign said Thursday
that a “decision has not been made,” it has confirmed that a
formal announcement will be made at a press conference in Manhattan
on Friday.
The
IndyStar reported that the one-term governor has dropped his
re-election bid in Indiana to become Trump's running mate.
The announcement comes just days before
the opening of the Republican National Convention, which starts
Monday in Cleveland.
Pence made national headlines last year
when he signed a bill into law that opponents said would allow
business owners to refuse to serve members of the LGBT community
based on their religious beliefs. Pence at first defended his
decision to sign the bill, but a growing backlash pushed him to call
for a “fix” to the law.
