Social conservatives Linda Harvey and
Peter LaBarbera warned last weekend that the Republican Party is
slowly coming around to LGBT rights.
During an appearance on Harvey's radio
show, LaBarbera, president of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality
(AFTAH), reiterated his fear that President-elect Donald Trump might
increase GOP acceptance of such rights, which makes him more
“dangerous” that Hillary Clinton.
The GOP has been “selling out on the
truth about homosexuality” for a long time, LaBarbera
said, adding that Religious Right activists must increase their
efforts to “push the Republican Party to live by its platform and
not cave on homosexuality,” a reference to the GOP platform, which
calls for the undermining or reversal of the Supreme Court's 2015
ruling that led to nationwide marriage equality and supports
so-called conversion therapy to minors and state laws that restrict
transgender bathroom use.
LaBarbara said he was “appalled” by
the trend and called homosexuality “an abomination” that violates
God's law.
“It will be seen that the Christian
view was the right side of history,” Harvey said. “They keep
saying that we're on the wrong side of history; we are not. It will
be proven and it's already showing itself for anyone who cares to
look.”
