CW's nighttime teen drama 90210
has cast Canadian pop star Kyle Riabko in a gay role.
Entertainment Weekly is
reporting that Riabko will play the lost love interest of a regular
male character on the show. The 22-year-old performer is currently
starring in the Broadway revival of HAIR.
Producers
previously announced that three men are being considered for a coming
out gay storyline when the series returns in the fall: Matt
Lanter, who plays bad boy Liam Court, Trevor Donovan, who plays
all-American jock Teddy Montgomery, or Michael Steger, who plays
romantic Navid Shirazi.
Bloggers seem to be in agreement that
Donovan's character will be courting Riabko when he joins the show.
Zap2it.com
reported Saturday that an unnamed source had confirmed to them that
Donovan would play gay.
In
an interview with GregInHollywood.com's Greg Hernandez, Donovan
said he'd be “honored” to play the role.
“To tell you the truth, I would be
honored and flattered and excited if it was me,” he said. “Because
not only would it be a great opportunity to sort of display and
showcase your acting chops, but it's also a great opportunity to
[portray the] struggle of coming to that fruition, the realization.”
90210 returns to the CW on
September 13.
