UK rugby star Ben Cohen has announced
he'll head a new foundation to support gay charities and groups.
Even as his future with the Sale Sharks
remains uncertain, Cohen, also known as Big Ben and Benji, announced
on his website that he's prepared to take on a more visible role
in advocating for LGBT rights.
“As you may have read in the press my
future at Sale is now uncertain.”
“I am still fit, healthy, and at 32
still ready to play rugby. I am currently looking at offers from
Premiership Clubs and will continue to see what is out there.”
The six-foot-two married father of two
went on to announce his new ventures.
“This summer I am heading The Ben
Cohen Acceptance Tour to the USA. We are working with
gay/gay-friendly rugby clubs holding events and dinners and spreading
a message of acceptance and mutual respect for everyone and also
raising money for my soon to be formed foundation, which will be
supporting existing charities and organizations working within the
LGBT community.”
Cohen, who
has been nominated for a NewNowNext award in the Cause You're Hot
category, promised more information in the coming week.
