Andy Cohen, host of cabler Bravo's
Watch What Happens Live, served as the grand marshal at this
year's third annual Miami Beach Gay Pride and Festival.
Cohen rolled down Ocean Drive in the
back of a Rolls Royce on Saturday waving to the crowd.
Miami Beach's parade kicks off a long –
and becoming longer – gay pride season that hits its stride in
June.
Last year's co-grand marshals gay
rights activist Lt. Dan Choi and actress Sharon Gless helmed the
parade from the back seat of a vintage Rolls Royce, bringing much
attention to the burgeoning parade.
One of the parade's highlights this
year was a column of vintage cars carrying four-dozen mature gay
couples who have been together for decades, the
Miami
Herald
reported.
Chuck Hunziker, 78, and Bob Collier,
76, of Fort Lauderdale, met on a Fourth of July in Brooklyn 48 years
ago.
“Fireworks,” Hunziker told the
paper. “That's how we remember our anniversary date.”
“A lot of [the kids] joke that we've
been together longer than they've been alive,” Collier said, adding
that his straight brother has been married four times. “I'm the
more stable one in my marriage.”
