New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli
has joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) New
Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign.
“I'm State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli,
a proud New Yorker and a life-long Long Islander, and I support
marriage equality,” the 57-year-old DiNapoli says in his 30-second
video ad released Friday.
“As state comptroller, I believe in
equal opportunity and a level playing field and that includes being
able to marry the person you love.”
“And I mean right here in New York,
where we all live and pay taxes,” he adds, referring to the state's
recognition of gay and lesbian marriages performed outside its
borders. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.)
DiNapoli, a former state assemblyman,
narrowly held on to his post in last year's general election. He was
overwhelmingly elected to the post by New York state lawmakers in
2007.
DiNapoli is among the growing number of
prominent politicians, celebrities and professional athletes to
record a video for the campaign that began last year. New
York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, New York City
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former
Mayors Ed Koch and Dave Dinkins have also recorded similar ads.
