Actress Uma Thurman is the latest
celebrity to join the Human
Rights Campaign's (HRC) New Yorkers for Marriage Equality
campaign.
“What we're fighting for is a
conservative value: the right to make a lifelong commitment to
someone you love,” Thurman says in her 30-second video released
Wednesday.
“Please join the super-majority of
New Yorkers who support marriage equality. The time is now. The
time is for New York to lead again,” she adds. (The video is
embedded in the right panel of this page.)
The 41-year-old Oscar-nominated Thurman
is best known for her roles in Director Quentin Tarantino films' Pulp
Fiction, Kill Bill Volume 1 and Kill Bill Volume 2.
Thurman is among the growing list of
celebrities, professional athletes and prominent politicians to
record a video for the campaign that began last year.
The prospects that New York would
become the sixth state to legalize gay marriage brightened
considerably on Monday when proponents picked up the endorsements of
four previously undecided state Senators. Later in the day, a fifth
previously undecided senator, Roy McDonald, announced
he'll back the measure. On Wednesday, the Assembly, as expected,
approved
the measure and sent it to the Senate.
